CUIS Introduction (continued)
|
A Word from the
President |
Assalaamu’alaikum, Peace Be Upon You
I remember
being very excited at the prospect at going to University and looking forward to
all the changes and challenges that University life would bring. However, I was
disappointed during the Fresher’s week as I felt that University life was at
odds with my religion.
It seemed
to me that the purpose of Fresher’s week was to tell new students where the best
clubs in the city were and friendliest places to get drunk! I realised that for
new Muslim students to the city it might seem that beyond their studies they had
no place in student life and that was what made me very grateful towards the
Islamic Society as it provided an alternative.
The Islamic
Society strives to suit the spiritual side for Muslim students and provide an
Islamic environment in which many social activities can be enjoyed and at the
same time we can meet for the sake of Allah!
As President
my personal aim is to make the Cardiff University Islamic Society more active
and far-reaching so that we can take away many important experiences that can
help to shape our lives. My role is to over see the running of the ISOC
committee, which is responsible for providing social and sporting activities for
brothers and sisters, for publishing a newsletter, organising talks and many
more events.
Also we must
remember that ISOC is run by students for students and so I look forward to
seeing old and new faces at our events and participating in the running of ISOC.
As a result we hope that Muslim students will have a busy and stimulating year!
Your
brother in Islam,
Mohsin
Malik
P.s. Vice-president says salam! ;)
